He is past President of the IALD Education Trust and the Designer's Lighting Forum and is the upcoming 2012 IESNA President-Elect. Chip Israel is committed to promoting excellence in lighting design through education. As a leading industry spokesman, he has presented technical papers and educational seminars in over 7 countries and lectured at a dozen universities across the country. Chip is routinely asked to speak at industry events - Designers Lighting Forum, Illuminating Engineering Society national and local conferences, and many trade shows including Hospitality Design, Neocon, and Lightfair. In February of 2006 he spoke at the International Congress on Architecture and Technology in Frankfurt, Germany. In the past 2 years, he has provided intensive sustainable sessions across the U.S. Lighting Design Alliance has also been recognized by winning over 60 National and International design awards including multiple awards for sustainable lighting design. Description: Successful lighting professionals must be able to incorporate into their work many new technological and scientific developments. Clients rely on and, indeed, expect lighting practitioners to know their specialties and to make well-informed decisions and recommendations on the client's behalf. That is why the 10th edition of the new IES Lighting Handbook is an essential knowledge reference for anyone in lighting. Chip Israel will discuss the changes/editions to the new handbook and give an update on the National IES and what is forecasted for this upcoming year. Also, we will be raffling off a copy of the 10th edition handbook, up to a $600 value! Time: Click here to register for this event! You may also contact to register. CALGreen/Light: California Green Building Standards Code and Its Impact on Lighting DesignDate: Presented by: Erik Ring is the Director of Mechanical Engineering for LPA, Inc. providing technical leadership for integrating appropriate, cost effective, and high performance mechanical, electrical, plumbing and energy systems into LPA projects. Mr. Ring's focus is on integrating principals of green design and within real projects and their inherent constraints. Mr. Ring's professional experience includes engineering, consulting, research, commissioning, and building energy analysis for LEED and green building projects. Description: The 2010 California Green Building Code (CALGreen) went into effect on January 1, 2011. The code includes approximately 52 'mandatory measures' for non-residential structures intended to require greener building practices such as reducing water consumption, building systems commissioning, diverting construction waste from landfills, and installing low pollutant emitting finish materials. CALGreen also encourages local jurisdictions and administrative authorities to adopt more stringent "optional measures." The CALGreen provisions are new to design and construction professionals as well as cities, plan checkers, and inspectors. This presentation will review a brief history of CALGreen and overview of the major elements of the code, with a more in-depth discussion of lighting system requirements. The presentation will also review ideas on documenting CALGreen compliance and how cities are enforcing the code. Finally the presentation will contrast CALGreen requirements with LEED 2009 requirements. Time: Click here to register for this event! You may also contact to register. Please send your dinner selection with your response. Dinner Selections:
Carbon Footprint: From the Mines to My House, Towards a Lifecycle of Analysis of LightingDate: Presented by: David Calligeros studied architectural history at Columbia University and soon thereafter opened his firm Remains Lighting in a Manhattan loft in 1996. He has taken a lifelong passion for environmental advocacy to the manufacturing and restoration of lighting fixtures. Remains Lighting is one unique source for thousands of vintage and custom fixtures - from six showrooms on two continents, and one LEED Gold factory in Brooklyn, NY - to illuminate the world's most distinguished addresses. Exquisite DarknessDate: Presented by: Edward Bartholomew has over twenty years experience designing architectural lighting. During this time he has won numerous lighting design awards while developing performance-based sustainable lighting strategies. He is the principal of Bartholomew Lighting a lighting design and consulting firm specializing in sustainable projects. Edward Bartholomew is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Washington in the Department of Architecture where he teaches Architectural Lighting Design. He also provides independent talks on lighting design, technology, and sustainable lighting strategies. As a teacher and speaker he strives to inspire and inform his audience on the connections between light, vision, and the built environment. As a writer he has contributed articles covering topics related to lighting education and the role of darkness in the visual environment. Edward has a BFA from San Francisco State University in Interdisciplinary Arts and a MFA from the Parsons School of Design in Architectural Lighting Design. Description: Safely incorporating darkness into the design of our interior environments has been a missed opportunity in sustainable design. This is due to a lack of knowledge in how to utilize darkness to create comfortable, secure, and restorative spaces. Over the last decade sustainable design has fully embraced daylight as the singular element for creating healthy, energy efficient lighting for interior spaces. Yet spaces that deliberately incorporate darkness should also be an equally vital part of a healthy and balanced visual experience. But what is darkness; A lack of light? A surface with dark finishes? A reduction in visual information? Or maybe a visual pause in a well composed scene. One of the roles of electric lighting is to allow opportunities for darkness to exist. In this way darkness becomes a vital part of a sustainable, energy efficient environment. Time: |
