At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine flicker and stroboscopic effects, whether perceived or invisible, and how they can affect human behavior, task efficiency, and other social and human factors.
  2.  

  3. Understand how flicker and stroboscopic effects are being measured and discussed within the lighting industry by groups such as IEEE, Energy Star, DOE, NEMA, and others.
  4.  

  5. Examine the evolution of lighting technologies, including the latest technologies that utilize constant current, to control flicker and stroboscopic effects by replacing PWM methodologies.
  6.  

  7. Discuss what these technological advancements mean for the greater community in applications such as schools, offices, and industrial facilities.

Eric J. Haugaard, Director of Product Technology
Eric Haugaard is the Director of Product Technology for Cree Lighting. His career of 32 years includes a variety of positions primarily focused on advanced lighting systems development. Eric holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, with Post-Baccalaureate Program studies completed at NASA/Ames Research Center. He holds 48 US and 16 foreign patents related to lighting technology.
